Volunteer at Beth Ryan Nature Preserve – November 23rd, 2024
Join Columbia Land Trust and the Oswego Lake Watershed Council for a morning of volunteer work at Beth Ryan Nature Preserve, a small, beloved trail in Lake Oswego that borders a seasonal wetland. Several large trees fell across the trail in last winter’s ice storm, creating a newly exposed slope along the side of the trail. Join us as we replant this area with sun-loving wildflowers, grasses, and native Oregon white oaks!
Beth Ryan Nature Preserve was originally donated to the Three Rivers Land Conservancy (formerly known as Lake Oswego Land Trust) by Arthur Piculell and William Cox in December 1991. Mr. Piculell named the preserve in honor of Beth Ryan, whom he remembered as an early advocate of natural areas preservation in the area. Columbia Land Trust has owned and managed this property for open space and habitat since 2010, working with volunteers and partners to control invasive species and maintain the trail. We are excited to partner with the Oswego Lake Watershed Council for this event and are grateful for their many efforts to restore and conserve Lake Oswego’s watershed.
Register here with the Oswego Lake Watershed Council to join our morning of volunteer work!
Date: Saturday, November 23rd, 2024
Time: 10:00am – 12:00pm
Location: Beth Ryan Nature Preserve (Google Maps link)
The trail entrance is on Summit Drive at the intersection with Village Drive in Lake Oswego. Street parking is available along Village Drive and in the surrounding neighborhood.
What to Expect: Planting requires volunteers to bend over and kneel, but we can arrange alternate projects for those with different abilities or mobility issues. We will be working outdoors so please dress for the weather (long pants and layers are recommended). Sturdy, closed-toed shoes are required. Bring your own water bottle. Tools, gloves, and training will be provided. Please bring any medication you may need (Asthma Inhaler, Epi-Pen, etc.) Children are welcome if accompanied by an attentive adult. Unfortunately, there is no bathroom on site. Please stop by, learn about native woodland ecology, and lend a hand as we enhance the habitat and the beautiful natural environment at Beth Ryan!
